Technology Law Section Executive Committee
May 8, 2009

Attendees – Gaines Carter, Ben Young, Steve Combs, Jim Harvey, Brett Lockwood, Sarah Shalf, Mari Myer, Erinn Robinson, Jim Schutz, Jason Daffner, Chuck Ross (by phone)
1.    Meeting called to order at 7:42 am

2.    Welcome – Gaines Carter

3.    Regular Agenda Items

a.    Section Finances Review
i.    The EC needs to get additional financial information from the Bar
ii.    Steve Combs indicated that the Section has approximately $5,000
iii.    Jason Daffner has volunteered to handle Section finances moving forward

b.    2009 Membership Drive
i.    Jim Harvey will reach out to technology lawyers in Atlanta community
ii.    We will try to drive new members via Braves game sign up
iii.    Some discussion about lowering annual dues to come more into line with other Section practices

c.    Annual Reports
i.    Steve submitted annual report to the Bar on May 1st that addresses the Section’s current initiatives

d.    Georgia Bar Foundation Donation Request
i.    The foundation and its associated organization are facing a funding crisis
ii.    Section decided to contribute 10% of its reserves to the Foundation

e.    2009 Section Elections
i.    The details have been finalized by John Hutchins and will go out to members today

f.    Website Development Update – Steve Combs
i.    Executive committee member bios have been added

g.    Journal Update – Steve Combs
i.    New journal editor is Brett Lockwood
ii.    Steve Combs will continue to assist in his role as the website editor

h.    TLI 2009 Planning Committee – Chuck Ross
i.    Still looking to finalize speakers before next month
ii.    We may have some financial resources available to bring in a big name
iii.    David Dempsey will be the lunch speaker
iv.    Jim Harvey is going to contact “Push-Push” theater group about open source theater topic

v.    Panel on bloggers suggested and Ben Young and Sarah Shalf will get together next week to discuss invitations to Glenn Reynolds, Howard Bashman and other legal bloggers
i.    Annual Meeting
i.    Date set for Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Troutman Sanders
ii.    Lunch options discussed – Ben Young will make decision
iii.    Steve Combs and Jim Harvey will present a topic about social media and will seek CLE credit for the presentation
iv.    Notice will go out later today
j.    Spring Meeting/Social – Ben Young
i.    Braves game moved to Tuesday, June 2nd (against the Cubs)
ii.    Notice will go out Friday afternoon (May 8th)
iii.    Event will be free for members and non-members will pay $10 (can attend for free if they sign up for Section membership)

k.    Section Initiatives – Ben Young
i.    Law school liaison position will be filled by Warren Thomas, rising 2L at Georgia State
ii.    The Section is going to begin purging executive committee members that do not regularly attend meetings
